Turn off NSFW content and trim notifications.
โฑ Takes about 5 minutes
Why bother?
Reddit has a lot of good stuff and a lot of awful stuff. The NSFW toggle hides the worst. Hiding the front page kills the algorithm.
Do this, in order
- 1
On the KID's Reddit account, tap profile โ Settings โ Account
Scroll to Adult content. - 2
Turn OFF "Enable adult content"
And turn OFF "Show NSFW content in searches". - 3
Settings โ Notifications โ mute everything except DMs
Stops Reddit nagging them back into the app. - 4
Settings โ Privacy โ Chat requests
Set to Nobody. Strangers can't DM. - 5
Settings โ Content preferences โ Communities
Mute subreddits you don't want appearing on the home feed (NSFW, politics, conspiracy). - 6
Bonus: SafeGuard blocks r/popular, r/all and the home feed
Kid can still visit specific subreddits like r/aww โ just not the algorithm.
You did it. ๐
Tell your kid you set this up, and why. It works way better when it's not a secret.
