Discord
Filter DMs from strangers and turn on Family Center.
โฑ Takes about 5 minutes
Why bother?
Discord is mostly servers full of strangers. By default, anyone can DM your kid. The Family Center lets you see who they message without reading the messages.
Do this, in order
- 1
On YOUR phone, install Discord and sign up
Use your real name. - 2
User Settings โ Family Center โ Connect
A QR code appears. - 3
On the KID's Discord, scan the QR
User Settings โ Family Center โ Scan QR. - 4
Confirm on both sides
You'll now see weekly emails: which servers they joined, who they DM'd, who they added. - 5
On their phone: Settings โ Privacy & Safety
Turn on Filter direct messages from non-friends (set to Filter All). - 6
Same page: "Who can add you as a friend"
Set to Friends of Friends. Strangers can no longer add them. - 7
Same page: "Allow direct messages from server members"
Turn it OFF. Random server members can't DM them anymore. - 8
Settings โ Privacy & Safety โ Sensitive Media
Set to Block.
You did it. ๐
Tell your kid you set this up, and why. It works way better when it's not a secret.
